NYMEX Light oil futures contracts
Oil futures contracts are traded on regulated futures exchanges. Trading can take place through electronic dealing systems, open outcry around a pit or a combination of both.
Historically, trading at NYMEX involved the physical transfer of goods between buyers and sellers. However, today NYMEX deals in oil and copper, without any view of copper mine or oil wells. NYMEX oil trading occurs with the exchange of paper agreements, called future contracts.
