Oil groups hope for North Sea incentives
A package of modest tax breaks for North Sea oil and gas companies was set out by the Treasury yesterday, leaving the industry hoping for more substantial incentives to investment in the future. The oil and gas industry was expected to pay £9.9bn in corporation tax and petroleum revenue tax in the coming fiscal year, the Treasury said, up from £7.7bn this year.

Oil hits peak as Opec rejects supply appeals
Oil prices charged to a fresh peak yesterday after Opec rejected appeals by the US and other consuming countries for a supply increase at the cartel's meeting in Vienna yesterday. Although the decision was widely expected, oil prices surged as Opec's president signalled that the cartel's next move was likely to be a supply cut with oil demand expected to be lower for the rest of the year.

Crude Oil Is Steady After Rising to Record on Weak U.S. Dollar
Crude oil was little changed after rising to a record $111 a barrel in New York as the sinking value of the dollar attracted investors to commodity markets. The dollar dropped below 100 yen earlier today for the first time since 1995 and declined to a record low against the euro. Investors looking for higher returns have flocked to commodities. Oil surged 90 percent over the past year.

Oil slips below $110 on profit taking, eyes dollar
Oil slipped below $110 on Friday as investors took profits after prices hit a record $111 in the previous session, but the depressed dollar was seen limiting losses. U.S. crude for April delivery fell 47 cents to $109.86 a barrel by 7:50 a.m. EDT. It touched a record for the seventh time in a row in the previous session and is up nearly 8 percent this month and about 14.5 percent this year.

Oil And Gold Gain to Record as Dollar Tumble Drives Commodities
Crude oil and gold advanced to records as the dollar dropped after the Federal Reserve cut its discount rate at an emergency meeting and JPMorgan Chase & Co. agreed to buy Bear Stearns Cos. as its shares collapsed. Oil gained as high as $111.42 a barrel and gold to about $1,032 an ounce as investor confidence in financial assets eroded.

Heritage Oil banks on post listing prospects
Heritage Oil is to list on the main market in London before the end of the month. A notice of intention to list will be issued this week on the proposal that Paul Atherton, the chief financial officer of Heritage, expects to be endorsed overwhelmingly. The oil company has a portfolio of exploration assets in the Middle East and Africa.

Investors bet on $100 a barrel oil until 2016
Crude oil futures prices for delivery until 2016 have surged above $100 a barrel as investors bet that oil costs will remain high in the long term even if they weaken in the short because the impact of the US economic slowdown. Every futures contract until December 2016 finished last week above $100 a barrel for the first time after a strong rally in long dated futures prices.
